Welcome again to Chicago Creative Arts Online, Inc. (CCAO) the first artist owned
and operated video streaming company whose focus is online video and audio
presentation of the creative improvising artist community via internet. Its founders and
associates are artists and media specialist whose work represents the cutting-edge of
Chicago's creative arts scene.
This the second of our quarterly newsletters. We will bring you news associated with
CCAO, creative arts and it's artists. We believe that it is time for artists to control
their own destiny. In order to attain this goal, we have established partnerships with
our artists, international and local festivals, arts organizations' and contractors. We
have also partnered with Sons d' Hiver (France), Live the Spirit Residency and the
Englewood Jazz Festival, Transition East, Dawk Publishing, the Association for the
Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), the Velvet Lounge and the African
American Arts Alliance.
Our featured CCAO Arts Organization this month is The African American Arts
Alliance. The African American Arts Alliance of Chicago is a nonprofit arts service
organization which includes theatre, dance, music, literature, visual, film and performance
art organizations and individual artists. The purpose of the African American Arts Alliance
of Chicago is to increase the development of Chicago's African American artists and arts
organizations through programs and services that provide technical, resource and artistic
assistance. It is also our purpose to perpetuate a positive image of our
membership and to enhance awareness of the strong economic and educational impact
that the activities of our membership sustains within the city of Chicago. The Alliance was
organized to promote growth and foster the development of programs which increase the
visibility, marketability and stability of African American arts organizations and artists. The

represent and depict those themes and lifestyles which can help.In 1973 Playwright Useni Perkins founded the Black Theatre Alliance, this
organization instilled the value of community collaboration as a means of achieving
collective success. In 1997 a group of Chicago's leading African American artists and
arts organization came together and formed a new Organization; incorporating as
The African American Arts Alliance of Chicago. This organization embraced the
history of the Black Theatre Alliance while expanding their scope to include all diverse
group of artistic mediums. The Alliance was formulated as a service organization to
address the specific needs and concerns of Chicago's African American arts
community.
The purpose of the African American Arts Alliance of Chicago is to promote the
growth and development of African American artists and arts organizations in the city
of Chicago. It is also our purpose to provide services and programs that increase the
visibility, marketability and stability of these organizations. It is also our purpose to
perpetuate a positive image of our constituents and members, to enhance awareness
of the strong cultural, social, economic and educational impact that African American
arts sustains within the city of Chicago.
In April, CCAO will present a series of free views of the African American Arts Alliance
roundtable discussion on the state of the Blacks Arts community in Chicago.
Ernest Dawkins Chicago 12 will be performing an excerpt form Untill Emmett Till,
Monday, May 26., 2008 at the Goodman Theatre as part of the preview week of the
play "the Ballad of Emmett Till."
The following week the Chicago 12 will have a CD release party for their latest
release "A Black Opera" dedicated to Chairman Fred Hampton, at the Velvet Lounge
67 East Cermak. Monday June 2, 2008 at 8:00 PM.
Dee Alexander w Special Guest Maggie Brown will perform Wednesday April 2, 2008
7: 30 PM. at Kennedy King College, 740 West 63rd Street.
Also in June be on the look out for our special presentation of the Chuck D Archie
Shepp project from Sons d Hiver in Paris.
