¨ Mwata Bowden presents the AACM Great Black Music Ensemble concert series from 6-8pm on the first Sunday of every month (Dec 7), and continues with the AACM Small Ensemble on the second Sunday (Dec 14) from 6pm to 8pm.

¨ Our Monday Masters Series continues at 8:30pm with the following December lineup:

o 1: Isaiah Spencer & the Originals (Kevin Nabors-sax; Scott Hesse-guitar; Darius savage-bass) with special guest Mwata Bowden (woodwinds/percussion)

o 8: Wee Three, Ernest Dawkins (woodwinds/percussion) with special guest Jeff Parker (guitar), plus Kevin Nabors (saxes/percussion), and Aaron Gettsug (saxes/bass/percussion). The intermission discussion topic (appropriately) will be “playing without a traditional rhythm section”

o 15: Fred Anderson Quintet with Isaiah Sharkey (guitar), Harrison Bankhead (bass/cello), Josh Abrams (bass), and Marcus Evans (drums)

o 22 AND (special night) Tuesday, December 23 for the Velvet Lounge Christmas Party: Corey Wilkes & Abstrakt Pulse (trumpet/flugelhorn/percussion) with Kevin Nabors (saxes), Scott Hesse (guitar), Junius Paul (bass), Isaiah Spencer (drums), and Jumaane Taylor (tap dance)

o 29: Isaiah Spencer & the Originals (Kevin Nabors-sax; Scott Hesse-guitar; Darius Savage-bass) with special guest Ernest Dawkins (woodwinds/percussion)

o Tuesday 30: Series Finale (special night): Kwanzaa Celebration with Douglas Ewart & the Nyahbingi Drum Choir featuring Janis Lane-Ewart, Mankwe Ndosi, Ann Ward, Aquilla Sadalla, Keith Eric, Paul Cotton & Clifton Robinson

o Catch these very special Monday shows while you can. This month’s offerings will conclude this special Monday night series as the Velvet will be closed on Mondays for at least the winter months.

o Friday and Saturday, December 5^th–6^th Francis Wong (woodwinds--San Francisco) and Chad Taylor (drums—New York city) plus Tatsu Aoki (bass/shamisen) will join our esteemed founder and fearless leader Fred Anderson’s record release party for The Fred Anderson Quartet: Live at the Velvet Lounge—Volume III on Asian Improv Records, recorded at the Velvet during the 12^th Annual Asian American Jazz Festival in October 2007, and featuring the exact same quartet

¨ Don’t forget the Velvet Lounge will be open on Tuesday, December 23 for the Velvet Lounge Christmas Party featuring Corey Wilkes & Abstrakt Pulse, and Tuesday, December 30 for the Velvet Lounge Kwanzaa Celebration featuring Douglas Ewart & the Nyahbingi Drum Choir (see Monday Masters above)!

¨ The Velvet Lounge will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, December 24^th—25^th in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and Thursday, January 1 in observance of New Year’s Day. Happy holidays to all!

¨ We are pleased to announce that Chef Luciano, our neighbor 2 doors to the West, is now open late (until around midnight) Monday through Saturday for those of you who need to grab some delicious food right in the neighborhood. If you are in a hurry, remember that you are always welcome to bring your food to the Velvet, although we request that you purchase your drinks (pop included) at the bar.
