Former Chicago AACM president, musician and teacher, Ernest Dawkins is one of the key Great Black Music torchbearers. He leads the New Horizons Ensemble that was founded in 1979 and gathers three generations of Chicago musicians ; he also leads the Chicago 12, made up of young Chicago musicians, including some of his ex-pupils, and the Aesop quartet but he also participates in other musical projects such as Kahil El'Zabar's Ethnic Heritage Ensemble. In his playing, Ernest Dawkins perfectly links tradition and free jazz, old masters' influence as well as bebop's or Coltrane's and experimental research.
