On January 7 th , 2005, Chicago Creative Arts Online (CCAO) hosted their inaugural event at the Hothouse in Chicago's south loop. It marked one of the first events officially filmed for the innovative, musician-owned, video and music streaming company. Four groups performed for the first part of the event: a Tribute to John Coltrane with Ernest Dawkins, Ari Brown, Kirk Brown, Isaiah Spencer and Carl Testa, Aaron Getsug Trio, Greg Ward Quartet, Corey Wilkes Quartet and a Ward/Wilkes Quintet. All of the music played during the night was all original. The first group played compositions by Brown, Dawkins and Testa as well as collectively improvised pieces. The sampling of music from different composers allowed for a variety of music to be explored. (...continued) |
