Misconceptions of a Delusion and Shades of a Charade
Ernest Dawkins and the Chicago 12

Ernest Dawkins's composition Misconceptions of a Delusion and Shades of a Charade is inspired by the 1969 trial of Bobby Seale and and the Chicago 7 for their role in the riots that took place during the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Bobby Seale, then a national leader and co-founder of the Black Panther Party for Self- Defence, was bound and gagged in the courtroom for demanding the right to act as his own defense. Judge Julius Hoffman denied his constitutional rights and made an example of Seale. People wept in the courtroom on daily basis as they witnessed Seale Bound, gagged and chained to a chair during the court proceedings
